Who am I? A question that most people seem to have an answer to and yet one whose answer keeps changing, rather shaping itself as we pulse through time. If I were to ask myself the same, on a lighter note, I could me a Jedi knight with a light sabre or probably a sorcerer/wizard in control of elemental forces and the dark arts. Getting back to reality, biologically, all I am is a sack of flesh and bones driven by neural impulses and metabolic urges. Philosophically, I could be a seeker of knowledge and another little flame guided by a beacon of light in the valley of darkness. If I were to define myself in terms of the people I live around, I am a son, a brother, a friend, a student, a citizen and in most cases a mere spectator.
But each of these is just a fragment of me, each comparable, to pieces of jigsaw in an incomplete puzzle. What makes me glad though, is that I have more tomorrows than yesterdays, leaving ample time to complete the puzzle.
If I were to say I know what I am or who I am, I would be one among the many fools. But the closest I can get to defining myself is that I am a function of my thoughts, beliefs, choices and actions. The actions being coursed by my choices which are led by my beliefs, each of which in-turn is fuelled by my thoughts. Each of which have been conditioned by the people I have been around and the situations I have been through. But if I were too look into the bigger picture; finally isn’t that what life is about? An exploratory journey of one’s self. Like very well put by one of my colleagues or friends “A student in the University of Life”. Our understanding of ourselves is constantly changing. As we expose ourselves to life we expose ourselves not just to the world but also to ourselves.
